Bracing for the Republican ride

Nate Silver of The New York Times’ “FiveThirtyEight” website, and the most accurate of political pundits, attempted this week to bring sanity to the presidential race after this past Super Tuesday’s presidential primaries, with Donald Trump winning big on the Republican side and Hillary Clinton taking the Democratic side.

While the Democrats took the primaries with spirit, the Republicans took it as a war — a civil war in the Republican party. I sincerely do not know if that is in any of our best interests or that of our country’s. The war is centered on one factor: denying Donald Trump the Republican nomination. This column has continually expressed its fright over him and his campaign of racism, sexism and downright lies.

But back to Silver, who made one very important point. After Tuesday, we discovered that Trump had a total support in the Republican party of 36 percent. That’s right, among Republicans, he saw only 36 percent of the vote. As for Clinton, her average among Democrats was 60 percent. While Republicans are at war, Democrats are civilly discussing issues.

As of the writing of this column on March 2, there is total chaos in the Republican party. No one in his or her right mind would dare to make a suggestion of where this race is heading. All we know from the exit polls of Republican voters is that they are angry.

Gee, what are they angry at? Or frightened of? The answer is simple, or maybe not so simple: the federal government, Islamic terrorists, the economy, illegal immigrants, the 1 percent of Americans who are getting rich, like banks and investment and mortgage companies — just to name a few.

As much as Republicans may be angry about those issues, maybe they should take a better look at where they’re directing their anger.

Let’s meet the real Donald Trump. While he speaks out about illegal aliens, he’s employed them. While he speaks out about jobs being exported to Mexico and China, products with his name are made in China and Mexico. By his own admission (Mr. 10-Billion Dollars), he’s the 1 percent. And then there’s Trump Mortgage company … Haven’t heard about that one yet? Here’s the fun fact: Trump is the number-one candidate of Wall Street. Who do you think gave him all the financing for his businesses? Banks and investment firms.

Then there are his taxes, Trump University and all of his bankruptcies … Hold onto your hat, or hair. This is going to be some ride.
