The organizers of OutFest this week announced the people and organizations who will be honored at this fall’s OutFest.
Each year, Philly Pride Presents bestows the awards to pay tribute to the local LGBT and ally leaders who’ve made significant strides in the fight for LGBT rights. At the Oct. 12 event, the OutProud Award will go to Elicia Gonzales, executive director of GALAEI: A Queer Latin@ Social Justice Organization, and the Lifetime OutProud Award will go to Bill Wood, founder of Woody’s and owner of Knock.
The OutProud Friend Award will be presented to Councilman Jim Kenney, and the OutProud Youth Award will go to the Gay-Straight Alliance at Hatboro-Horsham High School. The Gilbert Baker National OutProud Award will be presented to the American Civil Liberties Union of Pennsylvania, which spearheaded the lawsuit that secured marriage equality in Pennsylvania. The Jaci Adams OutProud Transgender Award will go to Dawn Munro. This award is named for the LGBT and HIV/AIDS activist who passed away earlier this year; Adams was the inaugural recipient of the award at last year’s OutFest.
