Melania Trump, I’d like to say “I really don’t care” to what I perceive as the worst First Lady in my lifetime. Remember her platform to stop online bullying? Well, take a look at her husband and I suppose you’d call her, to quote her husband, “a loser.” Her husband is the epitome of a bullying commander-in-chief. Essentially, she was a failure as First Lady and an enabler to her husband’s continued harassment of anyone who doesn’t completely support him. She tries to portray herself as above politics, with many journalists painting her as a victim. Make no mistake. She is no victim. It’s merely an illusion as she continues to aid him in his antagonism toward the LGBTQ+ community while attempting to maintain a facade of detachment.
Here’s the latest news: She’s been announced as an honoree at a Log Cabin fundraiser at Mar-a-Lago. So, she can simply roll out of bed and head downstairs without exerting herself or worrying about her hairstyle. Can anyone name one meaningful contribution she’s made to the cause of equality? The same goes for Log Cabin — the LGBTQ+ Republicans. What have they contributed to the fight for equality?
At the end of one of Melania Trump’s videos on the Log Cabin site, she states that American citizens “condemn those who bully and intimidate people.” Melania, take a good look in the mirror. You’re complicit in one of the biggest bullying schemes in the world.
As for Log Cabin Republicans, I pity its members. They remind me of Jewish individuals incarcerated in places like the Warsaw Ghetto by the Nazis or members of the Black Community who opposed the Civil Rights movement of the 1960s led by Martin Luther King Jr. It also brings to mind those in our own community who, in 1969, claimed that Stonewall was an embarrassment to our community. Dream on if you believe that supporting Donald Trump in any way supports LGBTQ+ rights. I’ll tell you exactly how much your support is worth: about as much as Melania’s anti-bullying campaign.
Both Log Cabin and Melania fully support Donald Trump. So, what are Donald and Melania’s views? Consider the following:
In 2015, Donald Trump told CNN’s Jake Tapper, “I’m for traditional marriage.”
And in 2011, when asked by Fox News’ Bill O’Reilly about same-sex marriage, Donald Trump replied, “I just don’t feel good about it. I don’t feel right about it. I’m against it and I take a lot of heat because I come from New York. You know, for New York it’s like, how can you be against gay marriage? But I’m opposed to gay marriage”
The Log Cabin Republicans tweeted a video in 2020 where Melania Trump spoke about her husband’s positions. She — to put it politely — told untruths.
“…people have tried to paint my husband as antigay or against equality. Nothing could be further from the truth,” the First Lady said in the video. She then added the absolute untruth that he was the “first president to enter the White House supporting gay marriage.”
This is the most crucial point, one you must not forget: your marriage equality could be stripped away by just two entities: Log Cabin Republicans and Donald Trump. Many of us worry — as the Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas has publicly stated — that either the Supreme Court rules against it, or Congress votes to nullify your marriage, and then the President signs it into law… and then it’s back to the Supreme Court. If Donald Trump wins and Republicans control Congress, do you trust them with your marriage?
