Site launched with info on anti-racism hearing

The Philadelphia Commission on Human Relations launched a site this month featuring information on this fall’s hearing addressing racism in the LGBT community.

The site includes a transcript of the Oct. 25 PCHR hearing. The 120-page document details the comments made by the several-dozen witnesses, many of whom testified to personal experiences of racism in the LGBT nightlife and nonprofit communities.

Other resources included a link to a 1986 report by the Coalition on Lesbian-Gay Bar Policies, which examined allegations of racist policies and practices at LGBT bars and clubs. It also features a 2001 report by Men of All Colors Together entitled “Smashing Racism,” and this year’s report by Philadelphia Black Pride stemming from its town-hall series on racism in the community.

A full report by the PCHR on the issues addressed at the October hearing is expected by Jan. 23.
