Should the U.S. government pay reparations to LGBT people jailed due to anti-sodomy laws?

Benjamin Deadwyler

"Absolutely. There should be reparations for LGBTs, blacks — all people who were system-atically oppressed and denied their rights by the United States government. My heart goes out to them. They suffered needless indignity. Reparations are necessary."

Meghan Gerry

"Yes, of course. That never should have happened, ever. It was completely unnecessary and outrageous that they were jailed in the first place. If there’s something we can do that makes them whole again, then it has my full support."

Patrick Hogan
pharmaceutical sales rep | Pennsport
"If they can prove loss of income due to their incarcera-tion, sure. Why not? But as for pain and suffering, how would you quantify that on a large scale? I don’t see that as being a practical option."

Caroline Oddo
tour guide | Queen Village
"Yes. I feel terrible that they would be in that position. They have my utmost sympathy. The federal government definitely should try to remedy the injustice that took place. I say go for it."
