A community forum geared toward members of Philadelphia’s nightlife community has been scheduled for this week.
According to a Facebook event, the discussion will take place from 7-9 p.m. Oct. 6 at William Way LGBT Community Center, 1315 Spruce St. It is being planned by Braden Chapman and Vincent Leggett, who encouraged bar owners and managers, bartenders, barbacks, security officials and performers, as well as community members who frequent local bars, to attend.
The event’s description states that the meeting was spurred by racist comments made by the owner of ICandy, but that will not be the sole focus of the evening.
“The problem of racism in our nightlife comment is far greater than one incident,” the description states.
The Facebook event cautions that the event is in the early stages of planning, and the only decisions made so far are the time, location and overall theme. Organizers are reaching out to local nonprofits and professional mediators.
