With spring in full bloom, the menu at Miles Table — the South Street catering company that also finds time to be a casual eatery — has gotten appropriately more colorful and bright. Spring has brought a festive feel to the venue’s already-eclectic menu, featuring burgers, salads, pizza and other comfort-food dishes.
If you can work it into your schedule, definitely drop by Miles Table on Taco Tuesday. Tacos are $3 each, with a minimum of three tacos per order. You can mix and match different tacos, the best of which are the crispy shrimp with pickled cabbage and pineapple salsa, as well as the beer-battered fish with avocado salsa and radishes and the chicken tinga with pico de gallo. Miles also offers short ribs and pulled pork tacos.
Even better on the Tex-Mex side of things is the empanada trio ($15), each of which has its own charms. The black bean and mozzarella empanada was nice and hearty, the chorizo empanada was juicy and spicy and the short-rib empanada had a nice smoky flavor.
Speaking of ribs, the baby back ribs ($18) would be fine enough by themselves — tender with a tasty tamarind-guajillo glaze — but the abundantly bright pineapple salsa, pickled cabbage and jalapeños elevate the dish with a menagerie of colors, spices and textures.
Miles Table also gets magician points for making us fall in love with cauliflower. The crispy cauliflower ($8), perfectly fried and dressed with chili sauce, peppers, onions and sesame, tastes and feels almost exactly like General Tso’s chicken from your favorite Chinese restaurant. You brain will definitely figure out that it has been tricked into devouring vegetables at some point, but the flavors and the textures are so close to the real thing that you won’t care you’ve been duped.
Tuesdays are hot at Miles Table, but you’ll definitely enjoy yourself no matter what day of the week you visit.
