Defendant will proceed to trial in Keisha Jenkins murder

The man charged in the fatal shooting of transgender woman Keisha Jenkins will proceed to trial, a Philadelphia judge ruled today.

Pedro Redding, 24, will next appear in court April 20 for a formal arraignment. The Philadelphia district attorney’s office has charged him with murder, conspiracy and robbery. Charges for possessing an instrument of crime were withdrawn.

Redding, of the 4500 block of North 13th Street, remains in custody at the Curran-Fromhold Correctional Facility. He was denied bail.

Philadelphia police arrested Redding in connection with the Oct. 6 killing of Jenkins, 22. She was assaulted by several men in Logan after getting out of a car at 13th and Wingohocking streets around 2:30 a.m. Jenkins was shot twice in the back during the altercation.

Police do not believe Redding was the shooter, and no further arrests have been made. Police said the motive was robbery and that there’s no evidence to indicate Jenkins was targeted for being transgender.
