Donald Trump. When many hear that name, they want to laugh — but don’t. He’s hit a certain nerve in some people that we don’t often talk about, and maybe we should.
Ask yourself what Trump’s break-out statement was that made him a player in the Republican presidential race. It was that line about Mexicans being rapists and killers. Then, he doubled down on that and claimed he would build an unbreakable wall that Mexico would pay for. If that weren’t enough, he now says he’ll deport every single undocumented alien, and that includes those babies who were born and are growing up here. That’s some 11-million people.
First let’s call this what it is: racism. Trump is completely slamming people of one race, Mexians. And who is this appealing to? I’ll let you fill in the blank, but what I will do is add a little sense to this carnival barker’s case.
Building a wall is impossible and, even if you did, where there is a will, there is a way. By any chance, have you noted that crossings of the border are in decline? And making Mexico pay for it? You’re no Kevin Hart, but it’s a good joke.
Now about deporting millions of people. Are you going to use the Army, police, National Guard? How about firefighters? That’s what it would take. Are you paying for the transportation? The simple fact is that it would take tens of billions of dollars to pay for such an operation. And who do you think would pay for it? You got that right, us taxpayers.
Trump’s slogan should be amended to “Make America Great Again: Raise Taxes.”
