The National Lesbian and Gay Journalists Association announced its 2015 Excellence in Journalism Awards Tuesday, and PGN picked up two awards.
PGN publisher Mark Segal took the first-place spot for Excellence in Opinion/Editorial Writing for his Mark My Words column. PGN art director/photographer Scott A. Drake won the second-place award for Excellence in Photojournalism for his “Pride in Philly” photo. PGN is the only LGBT local to win an award in more than one category. The Advocate and Slate.com also picked up two awards.
Stephen Jiwanmall of the Bucks County Courier Times, a member of NLGJA’s Philadelphia chapter, won a first-place Excellence in Online Journalism Award for his “Remembering Riley” story, which explored transgender suicide.
The awards will be distributed at next month’s NLGJA conference in San Francisco.
