Do you feel safe in the Gayborhood?

“I feel safe, but I’m aware of the crime that does happen. I feel there could be more security measures set in place. I’ve been lucky in that I’ve frequented the Gayborhood for 10 years and never [have] been assaulted. But I don’t want to deny the fact that there’s a problem in this area.”

“No, not after the rape. It was shocking to hear about. And the guy is still on the loose. I’d definitely like to see more police protection. Why is my rent so high when I’m not living in a safe area? I don’t want the Gayborhood turned into a police state. But that rape could have been prevented.”

“There’s always room for improvement. But for the most part, I feel the Gayborhood is one of the safer neighbor-hoods in Philly. I also realize that many people feel threatened in this part of town. If that’s the case, they should be accompanied by a support person, whenever possible.”

“No. A woman was raped within a few feet of where I work. It’s very unsettling. That rape was too close for comfort. In this area, the LGBTQ community is vulnerable to people full of hate and anger. Predators target the Gayborhood for crime. So we’re all at risk for their violence.”
