LGBT-friendly senior-living facility John C. Anderson Apartments came one large step closer to fruition Sept. 9 with the opening of the rental unit at the William Way LGBT Community Center. Seniors started lining up outside the center the night before, and dozens of volunteers were on hand to hold their spots overnight. Once the doors opened at 9 a.m., more than 100 pre-applications came in for the 56 units, and a waiting list has been started. Potential residents were assigned appointment times for project organizers to evaluate their applications with them, and a third-party agency will then be brought in to ensure applicants’ compliance with federal guidelines and other eligibility requirements.
