Philadelphia’s only lesbian bar is now closed.
After 17 years in business, Sisters Nightclub announced Monday that it had shut its doors.
A call to owner Denise Cohen was not immediately returned.
“We are very sorry to announce that Sisters Nightclub is no longer in business,” said a Facebook posting from Sisters Monday afternoon. “We want to thank you all so very much for 17 amazing years.”
The closure decision was evidently a recent one, as on Saturday the club was advertising on its Facebook page for events later this month.
Sisters opened June 19, 1996 and recently was the only bar in the city marketing itself solely as a lesbian establishment.
