About 500 dykes and allies marched through the Gayborhood June 8 for the annual Philadelphia Dyke March, which this year wended around City Hall and down Market Street. “Something about hundreds of dykes swarming one of the city’s busiest streets, chanting loud and proud, ‘The dykes, united, will never be divided,’ is just so damn powerful,” said organizer Kim Gana. Also new this year was a same-sex wedding on stage at Kahn Park. Gana said the event showed the depth and breadth of the dyke community. “When you march with us, you are immersed in this incredible feeling of connectedness; you walk away feeling a sense of belonging and acceptance of being seen and loved for who you are, as you are.” The team is always recruiting organizers.
