Is same-sex hand-holding a suitable punishment for high-school students?

“Yes. It’s better than suspension. Suspension is a reward to some kids. It’s OK to show affection to someone of the same sex. It doesn’t mean you’re gay. I hug my girlfriends all the time. I love them. But I’m not a lesbian.”“Yes. It’s better than suspension. Suspension is a reward to some kids. It’s OK to show affection to someone of the same sex. It doesn’t mean you’re gay. “No. It’s in-appropriate. It encourages people to look down on same-sex relation-ships. There has to be a more creative way of disciplining someone, without resorting to homophobia. Suspension or in-school detention would be better than that.”
Michele Harris

“No. It buys into the belief that it’s shameful to be gay. And it’s a catalyst for bullying that already exists. The recipients of that type of discipline become more vulnerable to ostracism and bullying.”
Marie McGranagh

“Yes. It helps break down the stigma. It’s something that students should experience. It helps break down barriers to public displays of affection. Same-sex hand-holding isn’t a big deal. And it shouldn’t be treated like a big deal.”
