Healthy eating will take center stage next week at a new forum hosted by the Metropolitan Area Neighborhood Nutritional Alliance.
MANNA will host its first Nourish Health Symposium, along with Einstein Medical Center, from 2-4:30 p.m. Sept. 20 at Loews Philadelphia Hotel, 1200 Market St.
The symposium will follow MANNA’s annual Nourish Awards luncheon, held at the same location at noon.
The event’s focus will be “Functional Medicine & Food: Assessing Nutritional Intervention in the Disease Paradigm.”
The panel discussion will be moderated by registered dietician Katie Cavuto Boyle, a nutrition professor at West Chester University.
Panelists include Dr. Joel Fuhrman, author and research director at the Nutritional Research Foundation; Dr. Diane Radler, associate professor of nutritional sciences and director of the Institute for Nutritional Intervention at the University of Medicine & Dentistry of New Jersey; and Dr. Aminah Keats, director of naturopathic medicine at Cancer Treatment Centers of America.
The earlier awards ceremony will recognize people and groups leading the local fight for healthier living.
Honorees include Citizens Bank Foundation, in recognition of the organization’s $170,000 funding commitment to hunger-relief efforts in the tri-state area.
Tri-State Renal Dietitians Association will be honored for its dedication to patients with chronic kidney disease, and Dr. Richard Cohen, president and CEO of Public Health Management Corporation, will be recognized for his more than three decades of service in the public-health arena.
Speakers include outgoing MANNA CEO Richard Keaveney and new executive director Sue Daugherty, as well as MANNA clients and staff.
