With Memorial Day, it’s official! Summer’s here, and the time is right for . .. well, you know.
Liberty Bell Classic
It’s time for the annual Liberty Bell Classic, sponsored by the Philadelphia Falcons. The Falcons are Philly’s co-ed gay and lesbian soccer team and this is the Classic’s fifth year.
The weekend kicks off with a registration party from 7-9 p.m. May 25 at Stir, 1705 Chancellor St. All games will be played rain or shine from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. May 26-27 at Pennypack Fields, 7800 State Road.
Not on a team? No problem! All registrants will be grouped into co-ed squads of six or seven players, who will then be paired differently in each game to form a team. All adult players of all skill levels, ages, genders and sexual orientations are encouraged to play.

Gay Men’s Chorus at The Barnes
The Philadelphia Gay Men’s Chorus will perform during the grand-opening weekend at The Barnes from 7:45-8:30 p.m. May 26 at its new location at 2025 Ben Franklin Pkwy. The set will be short but lots of fun, featuring previews from PGMC’s 30th-anniversary concerts June 15-16, including both choral standards and pop hits. Best of all, the performance at The Barnes is free!
For more information see www.pgmc.org.
Clash of the Titans
Don’t miss the Memorial Day bash from 9 p.m.-2 a.m. on May 27 at 3g Lounge, 300 W. Girard Ave. It will be a Clash of the Titans featuring DJs from New York City teaming up with homegrown Philly talent to create an epic event.
Cover is only $7 and there will be $3 drink specials all night long. The event is sponsored by GALAEI and proceeds will benefit Raices Latino Pride Philly.
Stripped! Pride Party
This may really be the first party of its kind: an LGBT strip party, 9 p.m. May 28 at The Gold Club, 1416 Chancellor St. (right behind the Applebee’s on 15th).
That’s right, male and female strippers performing for a gay and lesbian audience. Take that, North Carolina! This will either be the best party of the year or a total train wreck. Either way, it sounds like a hell of a lot of fun!
The club is 18 to enter, 21 to drink, so grab your friends and leave your inhibitions (and your camera phones) at home! Heroes 2012
Heroes is the annual event where the Delaware Valley Legacy Fund honors individuals and organizations for their outstanding contributions to the LGBT community. This year the event moves to a new time and location: noon-3 p.m. June 3 at Sofitel Hotel, 120 S. 17th St.
General-admission tickets are $75 a person and include a brunch buffet with a cash bar. Many sponsorship levels are available, all of which include recognition in various media and an open bar at the event. For more information and a list of nominees, see www.dvlf.org.
Happy hour for The Attic Youth Center
Support the next generation of our community 5:30-8 p.m. June 5 at Woody’s, 202 S. 12th St. A $10 cover gets you a free drink, appetizers and the satisfaction of knowing that 100 percent of the proceeds go to support The Attic Youth Center.
Sharon Needles at the Dollhouse Revue If you’re a regular reader of this column, then of course you know that every Wednesday night the incomparable Mimi Imfurst presents the Dollhouse Revue from 10 p.m.-2 a.m. at Voyeur Nightclub, 1221 St. James St. What you may not know is that, as much as I love Mimi, I hardly ever get to go because I have to be at work really early on Thursday mornings.
Well, it’s time to take a vacation day or call in sick, because on June 6 Mimi is hosting none other than RuPaul’s latest champion, Sharon Needles!
Sharon won it all, even after admitting in one episode that she couldn’t even win a crummy bar pageant in her hometown of Pittsburgh. Now she’s deservedly been crowned America’s Next Drag Superstar and, whether you’re a fan of drag or not, you have got to see Sharon perform live at least once in your life. She is spectacular and will make you fall in love with her!
In memoriam
Such a sad year it’s been for lovers of pop music. First Whitney Houston, then Donna Summer and now Robin Gibb? So many wonderful memories evoked by their music. Favorites? “Love Will Save the Day,” “Love is in Control” and “Boys Do Fall In Love.” Rest in peace, my loves.
