Gayborhood Crime Watch

    The following incidents in the Midtown Village and Washington Square West areas were reported to the 6th Police District between April 2-15. Information is courtesy of 6th District Capt.     INCIDENTS

    — At 8:25 a.m. April 2, a security guard was making rounds and found that someone had smashed the windows of a 2002 Chevy and a 2004 Hyundai, parked in the 800 block of Spruce Street, and ransacked the cars. Sixth District Officer Keenan attempted to contact owners without success.

    — Between 4 p.m. March 28 and 2:30 p.m. April 1 (reported April 2), a 2003 Saturn parked in the 900 block of Spruce Street was stolen.

    — Between 12:30-4:30 p.m. April 4, someone forced open the rear door of a residence in the 400 block of South 12th Street and stole jewelry. Central Detective personnel processed the scene for evidence and lifted fingerprints.

    — At 7:42 p.m. April 4, the E-Z Park lot attendant at 1309 Locust St. was struck in the head with a brick by another male, while a female was seen by witnesses inside the booth removing items. The victim was taken to the hospital in critical condition. The suspects were described as a black male, in his 30s, 250 pounds with shoulder-length dreadlocks, wearing a black coat; and a black female in her 30s, tall, thin with short hair and wearing a green dress. They left area in a black taxi. [See update in News Briefing.]

    — Between 6 a.m.-1 p.m. April 4, someone stole a seat and wheel of a secured bicycle outside 247 S. Juniper St.

    — Between 8:55-9:15 a.m. April 6, a construction worker set his laptop down for a few minutes outside 100 S. 13th St. and it was stolen.

    — Between 9:45-10:55 p.m. April 6, someone smashed the window of a 2003 Volkswagen parked in the 400 block of South Watts Street and stole a GPS and an iPod. Sixth District Officer Ramirez lifted fingerprints.

    — At 2:10 a.m. April 7, a woman was walking by 1309 Spruce St. when a male attempted to snatch her handbag. The woman held on and was punched; the male, without getting anything, got into a dark-colored Nissan heading west on Spruce. The suspect was described only as a white male wearing dark clothing.

    — At 9:45 p.m. April 7, a man was in the 1200 block of Chancellor Street when another male asked him for a cigarette, then struck him in the head and as two other people went through his pockets. They didn’t take anything. The suspects were described as two black males in their 20s, one wearing a white T-shirt, and a white female in her 20s, heavy-set with blond hair.

    — At 5:45 a.m. April 7, a man was followed from the 7-11 at 1201 Chestnut St. to 10th and Market streets by two males who identified themselves as police officers and asked to see a receipt for his personal items. When the victim set his backpack down, the males grabbed it and ran west on Market. The suspects were described as a white male in his 40s with a mustache and a black male in his late 20s with a goatee and wearing a blue hoodie.

    — At 1:15 p.m. April 7, a male stole a cell phone from a table inside Starbucks, 1301 Chestnut St., and fled east on Clover Street. The suspect was described as a black male in his 20s, with a thin build and wearing a gray shirt.

    — At 2:10 p.m. April 8, a male stole an iPad from a table inside Starbucks at 1201 Walnut St. and ran south on 12th. The suspect was described as a black male in his late 30s, 5-foot-10 with a stocky build and wearing a black baseball cap and a black jacket with red stripes.

    — Between 10-11 a.m. April 9, someone stole a power saw from the bed of a 2006 Chevy pick-up parked in the 1100 block of Pine Street. This report was received by the DPR Unit via phone thus police were not dispatched.

    — Between midnight-8:30 a.m. April 10, someone smashed the window of a 1996 Toyota parked in the 1300 block of Locust Street. Nothing was taken. Sixth District Officer Minnis attempted to lift fingerprints.

    — Between noon-5 p.m. April 12, a secured bicycle was stolen from outside 211 S. Broad St.

    — Between 9 p.m. April 11 and 7 p.m. April 12, a 2000 Acura parked in the 300 block of South 12th Street was stolen.

    — At 4:40 p.m. April 13 (reported three hours later), complainant said that while she was at Eighth and Walnut streets, the father of her children threatened her with a handgun. No injuries were reported. Central Detective Division is investigating.

    — Between 5 p.m. April 13 and 10 a.m. April 14, a secured bicycle was stolen from outside 405 S. 12th St.

    NON-SUMMARY ARRESTS

    — At 9:35 p.m. April 2, 6th District Officer Romanczuk arrested a male wanted on a bench warrant for failure to appear for court outside 300 S. Eighth St. The 31-year-old suspect with a South Philadelphia address was charged with contempt of court.

    — At 7:40 p.m. April 4, 6th District Officers Ferrero and Blackburn observed a male in the 1200 block of Chancellor Street loading and then smoking a pipe with marijuana. The male was apprehended and recovered were three bags of marijuana and a pipe. The 26-year-old suspect with a West Poplar address was charged with possession of marijuana and related offenses.

    — At 11:40 p.m. April 4, a woman was in the 1200 block of Chestnut Street, when a male snatched her handbag and fled east on Chestnut and then north on 11th Street. The suspect was apprehended by 6th District Officers Duncan and Burrell at 11th and Ludlow streets and recovered the handbag. The 44-year-old suspect with a Frankford address was charged with robbery and related offenses.

    — At 2:15 p.m. April 5, a man snatched an iPhone from someone’s hand at Juniper and Market streets. The suspect fled down the stairs into the subway concourse. He was described as a black male, in his 20s, 5-foot-8 and wearing a dark hoodie and dark pants.

    — At midnight April 6, 6th District Officers Duncan and Burrell arrested a male wanted on a bench warrant for failure to appear for court outside 1319 Locust St. The 44-year-old suspect with a homeless-shelter address was charged with contempt of court.

    — At 7:35 p.m. April 2, a woman was riding her bicycle in the 800 block of Walnut Street when a male on a bicycle rode up next to her, reached into her jacket pocket and took a purse. The male fled south on Eighth, west on Spruce, then north on Ninth, and was described as a white male in his 20s, 6-foot, 170 pounds with dark hair and wearing a green jacket and a dark backpack and riding a dark-colored bicycle. UPDATE: At 7 p.m. April 7, 9th District Officers stopped a male on a bicycle at 18th and Pine streets fitting the description given of this suspect and also matching video of a male using complainant’s credit cards. The 26-year-old suspect with a South Philadelphia address was positively identified and charged with robbery and related offenses.

    — At 3:15 p.m. April 9, a woman was at the bus stop at 12th and Walnut streets using her iPod when a male grabbed it and wrestled the iPod from her hands and fled north on 12th. Sixth District Officers Romanczuk and Cash stopped a male at 12th and Chestnut streets and recovered the iPod. The 16-year-old suspect with a Germantown address was charged with robbery and related offenses.

    — At 10 a.m. April 11, 6th District Officer Cash was called to 27 S. 11th St. and directed to a parked auto with a 9-year-old child left unattended inside. It was determined that the 28-year-old guardian with a West Philadelphia address was in court. He was located, arrested and charged with endangering the welfare of a child.

    — At 1:30 p.m. April 13, officers of the City Wide Vice Unit arrested a 22-year-old male with a South Philadelphia address in a restroom inside Macy’s, 1300 Market St., who was charged with open lewdness and related offenses.

    — At 1:50 a.m. April 14, 6th District Officers Macchione and Cifelli arrested a male wanted for probation violations outside 1201 Lombard St. The 50-year-old suspect with a North Philadelphia address was charged with escape.

    SUMMARY OFFENSE ARRESTS

    — On April 2, police issued a citation for a summary offense at 9:40 p.m. outside 1300 Locust St.

    — At 4:50 a.m. April 3, 6th District Officers Haberle and Henik observed a male break a window of a 2001 Ford parked in the 800 block of Pine Street. The 41-year-old suspect with a South Philadelphia address was charged with criminal mischief.

    — On April 4, police issued two citations for summary offenses at 7:15 p.m. outside 1201 Chancellor St.

    — On April 5, police issued citations for summary offenses at 4:25 a.m., inside the DoubleTree hotel, 237 S. Broad St.; at 8:05 p.m. outside 829 Walnut St.; and at 9:15 p.m. outside 202 S. 13th St.

    — On April 6, police issued a citation for a summary offense at 12:40 a.m. outside 202 S. Watts St.

    — At 1 a.m. April 6, South Street Detail Officers observed a male damage the lock of a 2006 Pontiac parked in the 300 block of South 13th Street. The 41-year-old suspect with a South Philadelphia address was charged with criminal mischief.

    — On April 7, police issued a citation for a summary offense at 12:25 a.m. outside 1100 Pine St.

    — On April 11, police issued a citation for a summary offense at 12:05 a.m. in the subway stairway, 1100 Market St.

    — On April 12, police issued two citations for summary offenses at 2:40 a.m. outside 200 S. 13th St.

    — On April 13, police issued a citation for a summary offense at 5 a.m. outside 1200 Pine St.

    — On April 15, police issued a citation for a summary offense at 1:20 a.m. outside 1313 Spruce St.
