Never Can Say Goodbye

How often these days do you hear about a bartender working at the same bar for 29 years? You don’t. Stuff like that just doesn’t happen anymore.

So when it does happen, you know it’s something special. Well, an era is coming to an end this weekend, my friends, because Terry Versailles is retiring from The Bike Stop.

Terry started at The Bike Stop a few months after Ron Lord opened it in 1982. But on Feb. 18, just shy of his 30th anniversary at the bar, Terry is retiring and moving to Washington, D.C., with his handsome husband, Rich.

If you’ve ever been to The Bike Stop, chances are Terry served you, either in the main bar or down in The Pit. Or maybe he made you laugh as the emcee of a leather contest alongside Stella, the “Maneater from Manyunk.”

With his signature black moustache and white wifebeater, Terry is a Gayborhood institution. Don’t miss your chance to come out Saturday night and wish him well as he embarks on the next adventure on the long and winding road of his life.

So long, Terry! You are truly one of a kind. The Bike Stop and Philly will miss you terribly.
