Fall is upon us but you really couldn’t tell for the last week or so, right? Are we still allowed to use the term “Indian Summer”? If so, it’s been a great one. If not, then someone needs to come up with a new name — because, whatever you want to call it, this has been wonderful.
The timing was perfect because last weekend the Trans March, OutFest and Occupy Philly all benefited from the gorgeous weather. The crowds were out in full force all over the Gayborhood and it felt like summer again. I know some people who even squeezed in another day at the beach!
You know the weather will change, but one thing that won’t is the availability of fun stuff to do around town. Just check out what’s coming up over the next couple of weeks.
Liberty City Kings fifth anniversary
Don’t miss the Liberty City Kings Drag and Burlesque troupe’s “Tricks & Treats” Five-Year Anniversary Extravaganza show from 7-11 p.m. Oct. 15 at the William Way LGBT Community Center, 1315 Spruce St.
Doors are open to anyone 18 and up, but you must be 21 to drink. Cover charge is $8 if you’re in costume or $10 if not (and no, that doesn’t mean it’s a clothing-optional event).
There will be tons of surprises, including special guests Lance Fennig and Roi Ovarian, and lots of your favorite Kings alumni, coming back for one-night-only command performances.
And don’t forget the tassle-twirling contest with prizes from Sexploratorium!

Alec Mapa
The Q Comedy Festival is wrapping up a week’s worth of gay belly laughs around town on Oct. 15 with headliner Alec Mapa, of Ugly Betty (“Suzuki St. Pierre”) and Desperate Housewives (“Vern”) fame.
The show starts at 9 p.m. at Voyeur Nightclub, 1221 St. James St. Advance tickets are available online at www.nightlifegay.com, $30 for standing room or $40 for VIP seating. Tickets at the door are $10 more.
And yes, you know you’re “a gay of a certain age” when you decide it’s worth paying the extra $10 for a place to park your ass for the night. Like me. I ain’t afraid to say it.
Warming up the crowd before Mapa takes the stage will be 2011 Gayborhood Gaymes comedy winner Steve Miller-Miller and 2009 comedy winner Jess Carpenter.

ActionAIDS 25th Anniversary
It’s hard to believe, but ActionAIDS is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year. This is the organization that brought us the Philadelphia AIDS Walk and Dining Out for Life. For 25 years, they’ve been providing medical case management, buddy services, advocacy, housing assistance, education, testing and counseling.
You can celebrate this inspiring milestone with them from 7-10 p.m. Oct. 22 at the Arts Ballroom, 1324 Locust St. Tickets are $150, with catering by Stephen STARR Events.
Highlights will include the presentation of three “Friends for Life” awards and the debut of an original composition by Robert Maggio, faculty member at West Chester University, performed by Philadelphia Gay Men’s Chorus. The evening will include other entertainment as well as both live and silent auctions.
