May Day called off

Editor:

Last month, in a letter to the community, Philly Pride announced that it would be doing a third event, Gay May Day, Sunday, May 1, in addition to our two tradition events, PrideDay and OutFest. This was necessitated because an event called SundayOut was scheduled to be held at the Great Plaza of Penn’s Landing, the home of our Gay PrideDay festival, on May 1, and we feared the concomitant confusion of having two gay events at the same location within six weeks of each other.

SundayOut has now been moved from Penn’s Landing and scheduled elsewhere. Because we received independent verification of this from Penn’s Landing, we are canceling our planned May 1 event in the interest of community harmony.

The coordinators, committee, staff, executive director and senior adviser of Philly Pride want to thank everyone in the community who supported us in this matter. Make no mistake about it, we are community driven and we are dependent on your cooperation and support to make our events successful. At least 70 community-based organizations participate in each of our events, making them the two largest networking events of the year, and we will never take your good will for granted.

We look forward to giving you the best PrideDay (June 12) and OutFest (Oct. 9) ever. And please feel free to check out our website, www.phillypride.org, for information.
