News Is Out seeks public input on LGBTQ news

Philadelphia Gay News one of several LGBTQ+ news organization to join New Is Out: A Queer Media Collaborative supported by the Google New Initiative Innovation Challenge and managed by Local Media Association. Bay Area Reporter, Dallas Voice, Windy City Times, Q Voice News, Tagg Magazine and the Washington Blade also make up this new, unique collaboration of queer media outlets from around the U.S.

In order for News Is Out to produce LGBTQ news that readers value most, the team is asking for insight from readers about what kinds of LGBTQ-centric stories they want to be part of their LGBTQ news consumption.

The short survey asks what types of LGBTQ stories readers would like to see, where they get their news, if they feel represented by media and news coverage, what information they want to find on news sites, what issues they think are underreported in their communities, what LGBTQ media sites they visit most often, whether they would participate in a focus group, and a few other tidbits regarding media support and how they identify.

“We really want input from readers,” News Is Out Project Manager Dana Piccoli told PGN. “This is for them, this is for the LGBTQ+ community, this is intended to be a source where they can get everything. We want to cover the hot topics, newsworthy, political, sports – we want to be able to hit all these things, so we need their help to find out what’s the most important to them.”Take the survey here: https://bit.ly/3rvtKZG/.
