Generally speaking, are gay men less misogynistic than straight men?

Rebecca Barnett
surgeon | Cardiff, Wales
“No. I wouldn’t say that. Sexual orientation makes no difference. Otherwise, you’d be stereotyping straight men and discrim-inating against them. A man can be misogynistic, regardless of his sexual orientation.”

Paige Carper
auto detailer | South Philadelphia
“Yes. Gay men tend to think outside the box. They’re more understand-ing of women because they’ve been degraded and judged harshly by others. They’re more open-minded than the straight men I know.”

Jessica Flick
telemarketer | South Philadelphia
“Yes. All the gay men I know are awesome. They don’t judge women differently than men. They treat everybody equally and with dignity. I just wish we had more love and less hate against [someone’s] sexuality.”

John Greenwood
physician | Voorhees, N.J.
“No, I can’t make that generaliza-tion. Gay men can be just as misogynistic as straight men. One would hope that gay men would be less misogynistic, because they’re in a minority group that experiences a disproportionate amount of negativity. But I don’t think that’s necessarily the rule.”
