Elicia Gonzales leaving GALAEI

After six years at the helm of GALAEI: A Queer Latin@ Social Jusice Organization, Elicia Gonzales is leaving the organization to pursue other career opportunities. Her last day is today, GALAEI announced today.

“We truly appreciate the time and commitment Elicia has dedicated  towards moving GALAEI forward,” Rafael Alvarez, president of the board of directors, said in a statement. “Through her years of service we have been able to carry out a strategic planning process, a rebranding campaign, and more recently, moving the organization to North Philadelphia, where GALAEI’s services are most needed.”

Gonzales was not immediately available for comment.

GALAEI will appoint an interim executive director soon, the organization said, adding a permanent replacement will be hired within the next three months.

Gonzales has been a longtime advocate in Philadelphia’s LGBT community. Before joining GALAEI, she worked at The Attic Youth Center and Mazzoni Center.
