Arrest made in shooting near Gayborhood

Philadelphia police arrested a 21-year-old man in connection with a shooting earlier this month near the Gayborhood.

Police said Tyrone Wilson, of the 1400 block of 15th Street, was charged with attempted murder, aggravated and simple assaults and related offenses. Wilson is being held in the Curran-Fromhold Correctional facility in lieu of $400,000 bail. He has a preliminary hearing scheduled for 8 a.m. March 11 in room 906 of the Criminal Justice Center, 1301 Filbert St.

Authorities contend Wilson shot a 38-year-old man in the right forearm around 12:55 a.m. Feb. 16. The man was standing at the corner of 15th and Locust streets with a 50-year-old man.

The two victims fled Wilson, first heading south on 15th Street then east on Spruce Street.

Officer Tanya Little, police spokeswoman, told PGN the identities of the victims is not being released, nor is their relationship to each other.

Asked if the men knew each other because they fled the shooting together, Little said, “They were together when it happened. Whether they were a couple or friends is not made clear.”

She said a motive has not been confirmed in the case.

Police said they took the younger man to Hahnemann Hospital, where he went into surgery and remains in critical condition.

Wilson was also charged Feb. 22 in a separate incident of carrying a firearm without a license. He has a preliminary hearing in that case scheduled March 8.
