A sort of homecoming

The holiday season is almost upon us, with one of the biggest bar nights of the year right around the corner. The night before Thanksgiving is traditionally one of the best nights to go out because every bar turns into a homecoming celebration.

Whether you celebrate with your birth family or your chosen family, be sure to make the most of your holidays this year.

Bearlesque

What do you get when you throw bears and burlesque into a blender? Bearlesque, of course! And possibly a broken blender. Check out the shenanigans for yourself 9 p.m. Nov. 23 at Tabu Lounge, 200 S. 12th St. There will be music, laughs and loads of woofy bears to drool over, both onstage and in the audience.

Gay Bowl XIV Kickoff

The gay flag football national championship doesn’t come to Philly until next October, but the fun starts now! The Greater Philadelphia Flag Football League will play host to the next Gay Bowl, and they kick off the festivities from 1-4 p.m. Nov. 24 at Tabu Lounge, 200 S. 12th St. Your $5 donation supports the league and gets you loads of drink specials. For more information, see www.gaybowl2014.com.

Divas on Main

Grab yourself a Cajun dinner and stay for a great show 8-10 p.m. Nov. 24 at Mojo Main, 270 E. Main St., Newark, Del. Cover charge is only $5 for this all-ages show, but of course you must be 21 or over to drink.

Pink Pub Crawl

It’s time once again for the legendary Pink Pub Crawl! The fun starts 9 p.m. Nov. 27 at Stir Lounge, 1705 Chancellor St., and then slinks around the Gayborhood on (or close to) the following schedule: 10:30 p.m. at Tabu, 11:30 p.m. at Woody’s and 12:30 a.m. at Voyeur.

If you’re new to the crawl, here’s how it works. First step is you dress up in something pink — shirt, pants, jacket, feather boa or some other significant article (sorry, but pink socks alone won’t cut it). Then you buy your ticket at one of the first two stops on the crawl. Tickets are only $25 if you’re pretty in pink, or $30 if you’re not. The ticket gets you a huge discount over the course of the night — one drink ticket at each of the first three stops, plus dance-floor admission at the last two. That’s a value of over $50! It’s a great deal and a great time, so don’t miss out!

Groove Philly Thanksgiving Eve

Get your groove back with Denise Cohen and some of the staff from Sisters at 9 p.m. Nov. 27 at Voyeur Nightclub, 1221 St. James St. Enjoy three DJs, two dance floors, sexy siren dancers Timaree and Sara, and drink specials until 11 p.m. (and don’t be surprised when a bunch of people show up wearing pink just after midnight … just sayin’).

Thanksgiving Red Ball

Catch the second-annual Red Ball at 10 p.m. Nov. 27 at ICandy, 254 S. 12th St. It will be a night full of drink specials, contests, cash and prizes, and there’s no cover charge if you’re wearing all red.

Santa Saturday

Don’t miss the 40th anniversary of one of the biggest and longest-running leather charity events on the East Coast noon-6 p.m. Nov. 30 at Paradise Nightclub, 101 Asbury Ave., Asbury Park, N.J. The day-long festival promises entertainment, an auction, 50/50s, service awards, pictures with Santa Bear, a leather shop, loads of drink specials, discounted room rates for event attendees (if you want to make it a weekend), and more hot bears and leathermen than you can shake a turkey leg at. Don’t miss the official after-party “Savage,” starting 9 p.m. at Paradise with super-hot super-bear DJ Johnny Mack. All monies raised go to support local charities.

PGMC Cool Yule

It’s opening night for the Philadelphia Gay Men’s Chorus’ annual holiday concert, 8 p.m. Dec. 5 at Prince Music Theater, 1412 Chestnut St. The theme this year is Big Bands, so expect a swing-style twist on all your old holiday favorites. There will be four shows — 8 p.m. Dec 5, 6 and 7 plus a matinee at 2 p.m. Dec 7. Tickets are $30-$55 and are available online or at the door. See www.pgmc.org for ticket links and more information.
