After two years in business, Pro Bar at Atlantic City’s Resorts Casino Hotel — the first-ever LGBT nightclub at a casino — shut down this week.
In a statement released by Resorts, the reason for the shuttering was attributed to a decline in attendance at Pro Bar, as well as at the casino’s Piano Bar, which also closed this week.
“While the closure of the clubs was a necessary business decision due to declining revenues in the two venues, Resorts Casino Hotel remains enthusiastic about its nightlife destinations in Atlantic City,” said Resorts’ Director of Advertising and Public Relations Courtney Birmingham, referencing the newly opened Margaritaville venues.
“The property remains dedicated to the LGBT community and is working on new and exciting LGBT programming for 2014,” she added.
Birmingham declined to release the club’s revenue or attendance numbers. She said the casino has not determined what will fill the space but, as of right now, it is not anticipating another bar.
“At this point, we are not planning to replace it with another bar. We are looking at a lot of opportunities for programming in 2014,” she said. “Our primary LGBT] efforts were Pro Bar and Piano Bar. There has been some entertainment that is scheduled for 2014 that fits with the community.”
Pro Bar opened in 2011 and originally went by the name Prohibition, to take on a 1920s feel. The bar was open from 8 p.m.-3 p.m. on Thursdays and Sundays, 8 p.m.-4 a.m. on Fridays and Saturdays.
In September, Resorts shuttered its “Divas Do A.C.” drag show.
