Gay me out to the ballgame

The 11th annual Gay Community Night at Citizens Bank Park is just past the cusp of August and there are still some seats left if you’d like to sit with your queer sports mates. Phillies take on the Cubbies at 7:05 p.m. Aug. 7, but you’ll want to be there early for the ceremonial opening pitch by out attorney Angela Giampolo around 6:45 p.m.

The gay-night sections this year are 301-304 and 351-360, priced $28 and $20, respectively. My partner Micheal and I are sitting in section 307, so that tier is your first best chance for inclusion in PGN’s photo montage of the night.

You can get your tickets at phillygaydays.com.

If that’s not a good night for you, the Reading Phillies are hosting their first LGBT community night Aug. 14 against the Binghamton Mets. Ten-thousand free tickets are up for grabs and the first 2,000 through the gate also get a free Fightin’ Phils umbrella. Visit Milb.com for more info.

Free $30

More accurately, save $30. Gay Games 9 basic registration goes up to $195 on Sept. 1, but register in August for $165 and save that $30 for a meal in Cleveland/Akron next year. If you are participating in a sport at the games, that additional fee can be paid any time up until four weeks before the opening of the games.

While you are registering, check out the GG9 new page for lodging. It is definitely not too early to make your reservations, especially for discounted rooms and premium locations. One of the best aspects of the new lodging page is it tells you the distances from each hotel to each of the sports venues. How cool is that? All this stuff and a playground more is at gg9cle.com.

Short stops • Registration is now open for CBLSL fall-ball season, which starts Sept. 8. A fall-ball kickoff party is planned for Aug. 23. Questions? Visit [email protected]. • Philadelphia Gryphons RFC’s fall boot camp begins at noon Aug. 3 at George Pepper Middle School, 84th Street and Lindburgh Avenue, near the airport. As they say, “grab your balls and your cleats” and come learn or improve your skills. Visit www.facebook.com/events/144937109037143/ for more info and to hook up with a ride, if needed. Also, the ruggers have a social at 9 that night at Westbury. • Congratulations to Chris Solano and Carmen Gervasio, who were elected secretary and board member at-large, respectively, July 22 at the special Greater Philadelphia Flag Football League board elections.
