Hot in the city

The humidity’s rising, so here are some hot tips for keeping cool in and around the Gayborhood.

’90s Party

God, the ’90s feel like they were only yesterday, but it’s been 20 years! So if you moshed to “Teen Spirit” or graduated to “Everybody Wear Sunscreen,” I hate to break it to you but you’re now officially old. Like me — welcome to the club! And that club is called the AARP.

Join your classmates at 10 p.m. June 21 under the stars onboard the Moshulu, 401 S. Columbus Blvd., where DJ Deejay will spin all ’90s music, all night long. Cover charge is only $5! Which means you’ll have plenty of nickels left over for the senior special at the MidTown. (Just kidding, you kids aren’t old … yet. Wish I could say the same about me!)

Wet n’ Wild In The Country

Got a hankering for football players, male models, cocktails, barbecue and lounging by the pool? Then from noon-5 p.m. June 22 you want to be at The Raven, 385 W. Bridge St., New Hope. This party, sponsored by the Greater Philadelphia Flag Football League, covers all those bases, with models from Metro Men’s Clothing giving you a fashion show by the pool while you sip cocktails and nibble on tasty barbecue.

Don’t have a car? No problem! Your $15 ticket includes a round-trip bus ride from Philly and admission to the party. The bus will leave from Riverview Plaza at 11 a.m. and will return by 6 p.m. For more information, see www.phillyflagfootball.com. Seating is limited on the bus, so if you want a ride, RSVP on their website today!

Rock n’ Roll Gay Bar

Check out the best new dance floor in Center City at 10 p.m. June 22 at The Bike Stop, 206 S. Quince St. DJs Robert Drake and John Stanley will be spinning all your rock, punk and new-wave dance favorites — guaranteed 100-percent rock and 0-percent disco-diva filler. The party’s up on the third floor, with new lights, new sound, kickass AC and drink specials all night long. All for just a $5 cover!

Ladies 2000 40 ’n’ Up

Join Ladies 2000 for a Gatsby Girl reunion from 4-9 p.m. June 23 at Top Dog Taco and Tequila Bar (what, they changed their name again?) 2310 W. Marlton Pike (Route 70), Cherry Hill. Weird new name, but the same great power-hour drink specials until 5 p.m., an amazing hot-dinner buffet and DJ Steve Singer spinning all your favorites.

Blend Queer Coffee & Games Night

If you’re looking for a change from the bar scene, then make a date for 7-10 p.m. June 28 at Chapterhouse Café, 620 S. Ninth St. Grab an iced coffee and head for the basement, where you can listen to music and make new friends while enjoying a good old-fashioned game night.

Bingo a Go-Go

I don’t take back every mean thing I’ve ever said about Delaware (I lived there for more than 25 years so I can’t — the list is hella long) but I will say that I’m incredibly impressed by this next event.

Join the Delaware Pride organization from 6-9 p.m. June 29 at the Delaware City Community Center, 250 Fifth St. in Delaware City, which is possibly the last place on Earth I would have expected to see a gay event scheduled. Well done, folks!

The cover charge is only $18 in advance or $20 at the door, and they’ll gladly sell you a Bingo dauber or two so you can keep up with the callers. This month’s theme is Disco Fever, so dust off those bell bottoms and squeeze into that polyester pantsuit — you might win the costume contest! For more information and advance tickets, visit www.delawarepride.org.

You also kind of have to give props to any gay group that gets a company named “Siemens” to sign on as a corporate sponsor. The high-school sophomore in me loves that!

Cazwell

Catch red-hot rapper Cazwell at 9 p.m. June 29 at Tabu, 200 S. 12th St. Whether you know him from the ice cream truck or from that time he saw Beyonce at Burger King, either way you don’t want to miss him. He’s appearing with DJs Xavier B and Javascript, plus opening act JNATHEN and hostess Tammy Faymous. Tickets are $15 in advance or $30 for a VIP meet and greet with Cazwell, including a one-hour open bar (twerking lessons not included). For more information and tickets, visit www.tabuphilly.com.
