They Say It’s Your Birthday

There are a lot of bar birthdays and event anniversaries listed below. I never would have thought that March would be a big month for all that, but I guess it is.

There’s so much happening in the next couple of weeks that you almost lose sight of the fact that it’s St. Patrick’s Day this weekend. But that’s OK — with the weather warming up, you don’t need to be Irish or a fan of silly green hats to find something fun to do.

    RuPaul’s Drag Racers

These season four girls sure aren’t wasting any time hitting the road and getting to work! Two of them are making appearances in the area in the next few days.

Milan hosts a “Night of Glamour” at 11:30 p.m. March 16 at The Raven, 385 West Bridge St., New Hope.

Sharon Needles will be the special guest at the first-anniversary party of Mimi Imfurst’s Dollhouse Revue, 10 p.m. March 21 at Voyeur Nightclub, 1221 St. James St.

It’s good to see them making the most of the exposure they get from the show. And as long as they don’t start doing supermarket grand openings or late-night commercials for mesothelioma lawyers, I’m all for it.

    March Stimulus

The March Stimulus party gets started at 10 p.m. March 16 at Finnegan’s Wake, 537 N. Third St. Look for the private entrance to the third floor, where you can hang with the hot go-go dancers and sexy shot girls while enjoying the amazing view. Special guest will be Ashley from Slumber Parties, the sex-toy company run by women for women. Check out products, ask questions or book a party and receive a special gift. Cover charge is $7 before midnight or $10 after. For more information, see www.stimulusphilly.com.

    Tabu’s Second Birthday Party

Don’t miss Tabu’s second birthday party, starting 8 p.m. March 16 at Tabu Lounge and Sports Bar, 200 S. 12th St. They’ll have different drink specials on every floor and a fundraiser for the William Way LGBT Community Center in the lounge, featuring Circus of the Stars, the Liberty City Kings, Notorious OMG and more. There’s a $7 cover for the fundraiser but the other floors are free all night long. St. Patrick’s Day Parties

Of course March 17 is St. Patrick’s Day, so every bar will have something going on and there will be people dressed in green everywhere you go. Just remember that St. Patty’s Day is an amateur night that’s surpassed only by New Year’s Eve, which means there will be tons of people out there partying much harder than they can handle.

So watch your step on the sidewalks and keep your cell-phone ready at all times: You never know what someone might start doing right in front of you that could make you the toast of Facebook in the morning.

    Rugby & Softball Bar Crawls

Like your men (or women) hot, sweaty and athletic? I mean really athletic, like the ones who tear it up with their team and come home smelling like grass and sweat, not the ones who go to the gym a couple times a week and come home smelling like hand sanitizer and protein smoothies. If you do, then you’re in luck this weekend, because the city will be literally crawling with rugby and softball players!

The ruggers of the Philadelphia Gryphons will host the Boston Ironsides in a match at noon March 17 at GW Pepper Middle School, 84th Street and Lyons Avenue. Both teams then will meet up at 9 p.m. at the Westbury for the traditional after-match drink up, after which they’ll crawl around the Gayborhood to Tavern, Woody’s and The Bike Stop.

Meanwhile, the City of Brotherly Love Softball League will hold its annual spring training and skills day 11 a.m. March 17 at Palumbo Rec Center, 700 S. Ninth St. Afterward, the league is doing a bar crawl starting at 4 p.m., hitting Sisters, Tavern, the Venture Inn, ICandy and Tabu.

The rugby crawl is free, so just show up if you want to hang with them. If you want to be on the CBLSL bar crawl, you’ll need to register by emailing [email protected]. Then they’ll send you details including where the crawl starts and the planned schedule of stops. A donation of $15 to CBLSL gets you a cool T-shirt that will grant you magically delicious drink specials as well as free admission to certain bars and dance floors along the crawl.

    QOTA Third Anniversary

Queers on the Avenue celebrates its third anniversary from 6-9 p.m. March 21 at Paradiso, 1627 E. Passyunk Ave. There will be drink specials, lite fare and good times reminiscing over three years of great events. A portion of the proceeds from the night will benefit the South Philly Food Co-op.

JOCKS Second Annual Swimsuit Fashion Show

If you liked the rugby and softball events, then you’re going to love this. Catch members of the Greater Philadelphia Flag Football League at JOCKS as they model hot new swimwear fashions for 2012. That’s right: football players in swimsuits.

They’ll hit the runway at 9 p.m. March 23 at Venture Inn, 255 S. Camac St. Your $5 donation gets you one domestic bottled beer or Finlandia drink, plus music by Salotta Tee and fashions by Metro Men’s Clothing. All proceeds benefit the league. (Did I mention the football players will be in swimsuits?)

    ICandy’s First Anniversary

Philly’s newest club is turning one year old and promising a star-studded VIP blow out like you’ve never seen before as with the debut a brand-new lounge. The fun starts at 6 p.m. March 24 at ICandy, 254 S. 12th St. To get on the guest list, visit www.clubicandy.com/TheList.

    Spring Pink Pub Crawl

Last but not least, it’s time for the Spring Pink Pub Crawl, starting 9 p.m. March 24 at Tavern on Camac. Tickets are $25 for those dressed in pink or $35 for those who aren’t. The crawl will hit Tavern, Woody’s, Sumo and Voyeur. Your ticket gets you a drink at the first three venues and admission to Woody’s and Voyeur. Check out www.nightlifegay.com for more information.
