Will same-sex marriage in Maine survive the November referendum?

Lindsay Chapman
sales clerk | Queen Village
“Yes. Maine is a pretty liberal state. Gay marriage lost in California partly because of the Republican governor there. He wasn’t very supportive. I think he was one of the negative influences on voters. But in Maine it’s different. The governor is a Democrat. So I’m optimistic gay marriage will survive.”

“Yes. I think New England is a very gay-friendly area. Most people in Maine will reject the antigay propaganda. They’ll realize that much worse things could happen than same-sex marriage.

“No. People are too conservative on the subject at this stage of the game. Conservatives will be out in force. In a popular vote, gay marriage won’t fly at this time.”

Lettia Myles

“Yes. The gays have a good chance. But it will be a difficult battle. Times are changing and people are more open-minded. Remember, a lot of folks didn’t think Obama would win and he did.”
