On Thursday of last week, four San Diego firefighters who filed a complaint against the California city for being forced to participate in the 2007 gay pride parade, won their battle in court.

Oct. 14th, less than a week after hearing oral arguments, the California Court of Appeals upheld a jury verdict that said the firefighters from the San Diego Fire Department (SDFD) should not have been mandated to participate in the city’s 2007 Gay Pride.

According to the defending attorneys from the virulently anti-gay Alliance Defense Fund, the four firemen were sexually harassed at the event and had to endure obscene gestures, cat calls and were subjected to displays of graphic images and behavior.

ADF Senior Counsel Joseph Infranco, co-counsel in the case stated:

“We hope this ruling will end the city’s attempts to defend its act of compelling people to participate in sexually-charged events against their moral and personal convictions. If not, we are prepared to continue to defend the firefighters all the way to the California Supreme Court.”

So as it would look, even with the advancements of gay rights, unlike the fear spread by many anti-gay leaders, people who are hyper-sensitive bigots will still be protected with their right to be homophobic.
