Southern New Jersey GLBT Pride is celebrating Happy International Women's Day (March 8th) and Women's History Month by acknowledging and honoring hard-working community leaders that are the backbone of maintaining dialogue, volunteerism, events and entertainment.
First up, Rochelle L. Johnson! Rochelle is an African-descent female from East Orange, New Jersey, now residing in the Philadelphia area. She is a child of God, having married her soul mate, Delena A. Richards, also from East Orange and is dedicated, loyal and enjoys life, love, God and family.
Rochelle has made many contributions to the Philadelphia area in ways of volunteering for Aetna's Diversity group, ActionAIDs, Octoberfest, a Board member on Elements LGBTQ Womyn of Color Organization and many other non-profit events and organizations. This year she is currently on Philly's DykeMarch organizing committee.
Rochelle is also known as Rasta Boi Punany, Drag King. She has taken Philadelphia by storm winning titles such as Mr. Philadelphia Drag King 2011, Mr. Gay Pride 2011, Philadelphia's Gay News Best Drag King 2011, Mr. Philadelphia Black Gay Pride's 1st Runner-Up 2012, Pittsburgh's The Aggressive One 1st Runner-Up 2012 and is currently Mr. Divo International M.I. King 2013-2014.
Rasta Boi Punany performs regularly in the Philadelphia area having made appearances at Tabu, Bob and Barbara's, Voyeur, Sisters, William Way and many other venues in the area. Rasta Boi Punany is currently entertaining the Ladies on a monthly basis at the Beagle Tavern in Norristown.
Rasta Boi Punany has also become a sponsor, sponsoring events such Philadelphia's Black Gay Pride Kwanzaa event and coming up, the Philadelphia's Blender Trans-Health Conference. Look for more sponsoring events from Rasta Boi Punany in the near future.
